What Is A Root Canal?

A root canal also referred to as endodontic treatment, is a dental procedure performed to remove an injured or diseased nerve from the tooth. The pulp is thoroughly removed from inside the tooth, cleaned, and sterilized. Then the root canals are formed, and a filling material is placed to seal the canals. Once the root canal treatment is completed, a filling or crown will be suggested for tooth stability and protection.

Root Canal Treatment

Treatment is unavoidable because the pulp cannot heal independently and can even weaken your whole immune system. If the pulp grows infected, it can cause an abscess that erodes the surrounding bone. Our dentist will conduct root canal treatment to clean out the infected tooth pulp and disinfect your tooth's canal. The only other resolution is to extract the tooth. We will take out the infection and fill the canals to prevent another infection. You could also need root canal therapy if you have had a tooth trauma and have nerve damage.

If you have any questions about root canal treatment, please contact our office at 828-327-8300. Our knowledgeable dental team will be happy to help.
